What is the early disposal tax?


The early disposal tax (TEA) is a tax set by law and levied when purchasing a battery. The term "battery" covers all types of batteries, accumulators and hybrid systems. The tax levied ensures the financing of all activities related to the recycling of used batteries and accumulators while respecting the environment. The use of the tax is subject to supervision by the Confederation.

For industrial and automotive batteries, it may be waived the levy of legal taxes in exceptional cases. This is the case when whole branches or companies can demonstrate environmentally friendly disposal and the corresponding funding for certain types of batteries.
